
Dr. Mary Ansong

Dr. Mary Ansong is the co-founder and CEO of the International Sickle Cell Centre (ISCC). Her experiences as a carrier of the sickle cell trait and the loss of loved ones with sickle cell disease (SCD) motivated her to work on ways others could have better lives with the disease or trait. She works full-time at the ISC, where she focuses on SCD education and advocacy, research, and pragmatic interventions. She has led over 40 initiatives at ISCC and volunteers to run the adult sickle cell clinic at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. She is a recipient of the 40 under 40 Awards, the Ghana Women of Excellence Awards, and the Women in Entrepreneurship Awards for her contributions in Ghana to SCD Advocacy and SCD Healthcare.
